Looking to learn musical theory in accordance with producing electronic music. I've seen the sidebar resources and plan to make use of them - does anyone have any advice for me?

Hey everyone. Basically I'm almost done school for the year and got into DJing recently. I'd like to start learning piano as well as musical theory so that I can jump on Ableton Live and start producing my own songs. I know many top electronic music producers know nothing of classical music and some of them simply learned through technology how to make music on the computer and used their ears to guide them, but I think that knowing the basic stuff from a theoretical standpoint would help me immensely. I've always wanted to learn piano so I am going to get my cousin's electronic keyboard and use that.

I was wondering if any of you savvy vets have any advice for me, what's important, what is less important, and how best to conceptualize this whole new branch of knowledge? Thanks kindly!
