Question about sidecar placement/location

I'm still a bumper - due in 2 weeks - and we're doing the last bit of prep for when baby arrives.

We have an Arm's Reach Mini co-sleeper - so it's just under 3' long. I had originally thought I'd need to get rid of my bedside table (and then figure out somewhere else to keep my phone, glasses, water, lip balm, etc...) but it occurred to me recently that maybe I could just turn it sideways so I can still open the drawers, and have the bassinet a little further down the bed.
Basically, the top end of the Arm's Reach would be about a foot from the headboard, which seems reasonable enough to me, but I'm new at this.
If you're done this before, do you think that would work, or is it really a lot better to have the top of the bassinet level with the top of the bed?
