(Spoilers all) You're King/Queen of Westeros, who would you have on your own Small Council?

Let's say they just have to be alive from the beginning of AGOT

Hand- Tyrion Lannister. He knows this Game, and can be ruthless. But he also performs well and dutifully any important task assigned to him (even the running of the drains at Casterly Rock). He shows loyalty to those who treat him fairly and with respect (Jaime, Tywin when he entrusted him with the office of the Hand).

Lord Commander of the Kingsguard- Ser Barristan Selmy. Self-explanatory. Popular, daring, not afraid to speak his mind, courageous, skilled, loyal to his monarch

Master of Laws- Stannis Baratheon. Just, rigid, efficient administrator, honest, immune to bribery or low flattery.

Master of Ships- Davos. He knows his sailing and he's smart and cautious. He can sense a trap, break through a blockade, and fight too when necessary. Davos is also loyal and incorruptible, with a strong sense of right and wrong. He'll speak out during Council meetings, like Ned, saying what's on his mind.

Master of Coin: Garth the Gross, the Tyrell counter. Make Tyrion keep an eye on him, so no Littlefinger tricks happen.

Master of Whisperers: Bloodraven, he's still alive in a way! Thousand eyes and one, not trying to fuck people over like Varys either.

Grand Maester: Luwin. A wise counsellor, kind, smart, and a good moderator. Trustworthy to the end

EDIT: Please feel free to name your Seven Kingsguard Knights too, here are my picks (again, alive around AGOT):

  • Barristan Selmy

  • Balon Swann

  • Garlan Tyrell

  • Areo Hotah

  • Bronze Yohn Royce

  • Greatjon Umber (and he'd be an awesome drinking buddy)

  • Brienne of Tarth
