Is this really a huge commuter campus/dead on the weekends?

I'm transferring here next semester from OU because the financial aid isn't going to work out in my favor in order to stay, plus I'm changing my major to something OU doesn't offer anyway. I'll be living in a single at Leebrick Hall.

From what I keep hearing Kent is a huge commuter campus and is essentially dead on the weekends. Is this true? Will it be hard for me as a transfer student to make friends? (I'll be a sophomore.)
