Why is Rastafari widespread in Jamaica instead of Vodou, such as in Haiti?

If I understand correctly, both Vodou and Rastafarianism in the Caribbean have adopted lots of westernized practices through missionary work and forced conversions, but why did Haiti retain these west African vodou practices? Could it be some result of the different ways in which French vs British colonies regulated slavery?
