[Build Help] 4 pin CPU power + 8 pin cord?

I'm in the process of building my new PC (first timer). I have an MSI H77MA-G43 mobo which has a 4 pin CPU power connection on the board but the Corsair PSU I have only came with a 8 pin cord that I can see. Can the 8 pin cord be used with half off to the side (not connected to anything) or should I postpone this until I get something sorted out here.
