Starting a collection!!! ADVICE????

Hello everyone!!! I stumbled upon this page and am amazed of how much effort and how cool everyone's collections are. But was wondering if I could get some help from all of you? Well here I go ...

I have recently been thinking of starting collecting horror figures,popular comic characters. I've had some in the past like from Spencer's the devils rejects figs, and a few 18in dolls (Leather Face,Freddy Kruger, and jack sparrow I know not horror) but I have somehow lost them in the process of moving or they have been stolen by roommates. I've also have had trouble finding appropriate space for them. I always figured I'd find a book-shelf and mix them in with my books so that they were out and could be seen but not needing a whole thing just for them...

If anyone could point me in the right direction for figures that are not to expensive, and other tips for a new collector It would be very appreciated!!!
