How has regular consumption of morbidly real media changed your life?

For me, it keeps me grounded. When you work 9-5 in an office, eat at restaurants, read facebook, play video games, whatever... you're detached from the crazy shit that happens in the world. When you become aware that that crazy shit happens, you're forced to choose a level of awareness that falls somewhere on the spectrum between constantly thinking of the horrors of the world and living in blissful ignorance. While it would be self-destructive to go to either extreme, at least having access to materials like I've found on r/morbidreality has made me aware of the necessity of that choice.

Personally, I like to hang out somewhere in the middle. I don't want to make myself miserable but I feel the need to be realistic. It's not something to be proud of, but in any case, what matters is what we do about it. For example, if you own a home and raise a family in it, you can sit back happily and assume no one is ever going to break in and murder the lot of you; or, you can learn to live with a little bit of fear in your mind while taking steps to arm yourself, install security measures, practice vigilance, and ultimately prevent a tragedy.

Thoughts?
