How dangerous do you think the threat of losing the open internet is in the United States?

Over the last year or two there has been a lot of talk about the Government taking control of what can be seen online for different reasons such as pirating and inappropriate material found online. With bills coming and going such as SOPA and CISPA do you think this is something citizens should genuinely be concerned about?
