Simple battery/REO question

REO owners. So, I was using my inline volt meter on my new REO and attached my A7 mini to get a reading under load. When I fired it, I collapsed my spring. I know its not the A7 as I've been vaping it all day on my REO and it still fires on my VAMO. Any idea why this happened?

Now for anyone. I use AW IMR 18490s. When it shorted, I immediately took the battery out and have not tried to use it again. I smelled a little "ozone", but no outward signs of destruction. Is this battery safe? Can I charge/use it again? Thanks.
