Not to bother anybody with stupid questions but I do need help.

Ok, so I haven't really followed/played pokemon since FRLG so I'm not sure how to trade without a link cable. My question is: is it possible to trade pokemon from LGFR to HGSS or any other version ( Sapphire/ruby/emerald) to a DS vesion( preferably one of the remakes for the time being? Also if there is, how can do it without a link cable?

PS. I only have a DS lite at the moment and a 3DS on its way in the mail.
