Do you bind your medivacs with your main army?

Just looking for different ways on how to bring my medivacs along. If its with the main army and you attack command somewhere the medivacs go straight there. If you don't bind and just have it follow a unit, and that unit dies then you have medivacs stranded everywhere. Is the best option to bind it to another control group and just follow the main army?
