I believe "swatting" is a waste of public resources and an extremely unethical form of harassment and is always wrong. CMV.

"SWATting" is a recent phenomenon where pranksters, usually affiliated with internet forums and associated with the hacker subculture, would spoof celebrity phone numbers. They would then call the police using said spoofed number, usually "admitting" to murder or some other heinous crime (e.g. kidnapping) on behalf of the person they are pranking. The police, duly alarmed, would then send massive forces to the prank victim's house and detain the prank victim until their innocence becomes clear.

I think this is horrible, not to mention a massive waste of public resources. Likewise, the person being pranked, almost always a public figure, risks having his or her entire career ruined because some teenage "hacker" thought it would be funny to prank him or her.

The responses of people doing this kind of prank are usually along the lines of "this iz fur the lulz" and "we're trying to keep the man [authority] in check" and "we do this in revenge for [prankee's action]". I don't buy any of this, and I just see it as stupid teenagers participating in highly destructive actions. Not to mention the fact that their arguments are stupid as well.
