CAPTCHA is not the way to go for mt.gox problem...

Bitcoin already employs a much more elegant solution - hashcash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashcash)

Instead of captcha, mt.gox can require proof-of-work for API requests with varying difficulties with respect to market lag.

You all read the bitcoin paper, right?
