VMWare tools on Ubuntu 12.10?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit inside VMWare Workstation running on a Windows 8 64-bit host.

I have installed VMWare Tools and rebooted, but typing vmware-tools results in a 'command not found' message.

Also, I'm not able to use VMWare Unity (the thing which lets you detach windows, drag and drop, etc; not the window manager)

As for my Ubuntu setup, I am using GNOME as my window manager.

Has anyone managed to get Unity running on VMWare in 12.10? Let me know
