If you're like me, you don't know much about ACLs, MCLs, etc. other than that they're tendons, so here's a rundown of recent NBA knee/ankle/foot injuries with diagrams!

Greg Oden:

  • microfracture surgery to repair cartilage in right knee (2007)
  • chipped left patella (2008)
  • fractured left patella (2009)
  • microfracture surgery to repair cartilage in left knee (2010)
  • dead or damaged tissue removed in right knee (arthroscopic surgery) (2011)
  • microfracture surgery to repair cartilage in right knee (2011)

Brandon Roy:

  • degenerative knees, meaning he has no cartilage and is playing bone-on-bone (Come on, Brandon. Give it up, man.)
  • retired after five season in the NBA (2011)

Brandon Roy's forced early-retirement is still the most tragic NBA story line of the past (and future) 15 years, at least in my opinion. Just wanna plug that in there.

Kobe Bryant:

Derrick Rose:

  • complete ACL tear

Andrew Bynum:

Blake Griffin:

  • broken left patella (2009)
  • meniscus tear in left knee (2012)

Anthony Davis

  • MCL sprain (Very lucky guy.)

Ty Lawson:

Kevin Love:

  • built up scar tissue removed from left knee (arthroscopic surgery)

Amar'e Stoudemire:

  • microfracture surgery to repair cartilage (2005)
  • dead or damaged tissue removed in right knee (arthroscopic surgery) (Oct. 2012)
  • dead or damaged tissue removed in right knee (arthroscopic surgery) (March 2013)

Tracy McGrady:

  • dead or damaged tissue removed in left knee (arthroscopic surgery) (2007)
  • microfracture surgery to repair cartilage in left knee (2008)
