I am going abseiling for the first time tomorrow (Sunday 4PM GMT). Redditors who have previously abseiled, what can I expect from this activity?

The abseil is a charitable event for my schools charity. We're doing it off the Europa Hotel in Belfast. The hotel is 51m / 167ft high, with a total of 14 floors.

I would like to know; what is it like? Is it fun or scary (or both?) and do the ropes strapped around you hurt in any way? What experiences do you have with abseiling?

This is my first time doing it and I'm very excited yet extremely nervous. I should mention I am scared of heights
