new runner from Feb, just finished a 5k race, question about whether a 1/2 marathon is a realistic goal for this year.
Good morning,
I've just finished the C25k program, and successfully completed a 5k run (best mile 9:30, average for race 10:00 mile.) I'm currently training for a 10k race at the end of May.
I'm currently running 10 miles / week, and adding a mile / week to the volume, alternating between the long run and the shorter runs.
I just saw a poster for a 1/2 marathon in mid-October. If I keep to my training plan, I should be ready to run it in lots of time (early July). Especially as I don't care about my finishing time, just that I complete it.
My question is whether building from basically nothing in Feb to a half marathon in Oct is a realistic and a wise goal, or whether I should plan to stop increasing distance at some point this season and plan for a 1/2 next season.
Thanks.
