Finding the right guild
I came back to the game a couple of weeks back after giving up shortly after launch. I figured the main reason the game hadn't grown on me at first was that I hadn't had a decent guild and MMOs are always about the people you play with as much as anything else. But actually finding a guild has proven a lot more difficult than I expected. I'd previously played WoW and had been with the same guild since Vanilla. The people I met through it were what really kept me coming back to the game for so long and that atmosphere is what I've been trying to recreate since coming back to GW2.
I've currently ended up in a very large guild which, while nice enough folks, has a no swearing policy and a commitment to retaining a "family friendly" atmosphere. This is driven almost entirely by the 2 or 3 people in charge of the guild and is just really not what I'm looking for - I'm after a friends down the pub vibe, not a family restaurant in the middle of the day vibe. But I can't seem to find any way to locate a guild that fits what I want (mature, reasonably sized, sizeable percentage of UK folks). Evidence shows my plan to just join whatever big guild was advertising in /map in LA was not exactly a winner (though it at least gets me my couple of guild commendations a week).
Where do people find guilds that don't recruit via spamming /map? How do you know if a guild is right for you without just joining, having a disappointing week to try it out and trying again? At this point I wouldn't even be opposed to moving servers (it's not like anything is keeping me on the one I'm on now), if I could just find somewhere with that je ne sais quoi.
tl;dr Want fun, mature UK guild. Where find?
