Why does House say 'stranglulation is better than breaking your neck'
In Son of a Coma Guy, House is advising Coma Guy (vegetative state guy...) on how to bump himself off. They are talking about hanging, and House says 'strangulation is better than breaking your neck'.
How? And Why? I thought perceived wisdom was that a neck snap was better (precisely as House notes, because strangling takes so long - there's an awareness of your own death, and presumably a panic?). I even read that during Communism when they regulated hangings in '53 they made sure it was a strangulation to set an example.
Even in terms of heart preservation, my assumption is that hanging slowly decreases oxygen to the heart, so presumably it is losing quality in those moments before death, as opposed to being halted immediately in its prime?
Any thoughts?
