Question about buying cards

Hey everyone not sure if this is the right place to post. I am looking to get into the TCG and maybe even card collecting. Something I don't understand is if I see booster boxes or trainer boxes on ebay/amazon for cheaper than the store is this a red flag should i only stick to store bought items while getting started or any tips on this area. Thanks in advanced
