Using irrigation wires for low voltage lights

I'm looking to put in landscape lights in my yard, and I need to cross my driveway. I already have some irrigation controller wires crossing under the driveway. That wire has multiple, individually insulated wires inside that are not all used.

Can i use these wires in pairs to connect low voltage landscape lights so I don't need to dig up my driveway?

What should I check to ensure compatability or safety? Thanks!
