Water heater anode rod fitting is stripped

The water in our house smells, indicating the anode rod needs changed, so I went to remove it and put on a 1 1/16” drive and went to crank and it just spun. I looked at it closer and it was completely stripped. We need to get it replaced but I don’t know how I can get at it now. Any advice or suggestions?
