Utility Billing Emergency

Hey all,

I just moved into a house, and we all thought the power bill, which was in an individuals name, had been set to auto pay, and life was good.

Our power was turned off this morning, and they are telling us that it has not been paid since June 2021. I did not even live here at this time, but the power company made zero attempts to notify us of the issue. We all just assumed the money was being taken out and we were up to date, including the account owner.

Now they are telling us that we owe $4k to get the power turned on, and they aren’t willing to workout a payment plan with us until the overdue balance is paid in full. I am in Wyoming, and have no idea what my options are. It is still in the 20s and 30s at night here, and this feels incredibly inhumane. Ontop of it being my last week of finals in university as well.

Any help is sincerely appreciated.
