Positive vent! Read to the end :3

I’m gay, and ive known i was atleast some sort of queer ever since I knew the term gay, and after years of searching for the perfect fit, Ive finally decided that I’m a gay man and I love nobody but men.
however, my parents are EXTREMELY homophobic and were oblivious to the fact I was gay, and in return I was oblivious to the fact they were homophobic.
Until one day they sat me down and told me that they talked to my friend and told me that she told them she had a girlfriend. She’s a lesbian and she’s extremely proud of her sexuality and community.
My parents told me horrible, untrue stories about gay people and told me that they deserved to burn in hell. I bottled my emotions and sobbed in the shower for ages. I was 13-14 at the time and I didn’t know why they hated the lgbt+ community so much. It hurt me so badly and after that they told me I needed to either stop being friends with my lesbian friend or convince her to not be a lesbian.
Overtime I fell into a depressive state and some days I could hardly be bothered to move out of bed. That was until, I was 15 and I met my boyfriend, Jake.
Jake and I love eachother so much and theres nothing on earth that could separate me from him, not even my parents.
But knowing that they would probably kick me out over him scared me and I hid our relationship for years.
When I was 17 I invited Jake over for dinner at my parents house (they knew about him, but they just thought he was a friend) and the dinner was going smoothly until my father starting talking politics. He stated that liberals were ruining everything, woke propaganda, ect. And I guess Jake just couldnt keep the act up anymore when my dad said the f slur. I don’t blame Jake and I’m proud of him for standing up, I could never imagine what wouldve happened if he didn’t and I have no idea what my life would be like right now if he stayed quiet.
Jake stood up and shouted at my dad that he wouldnt listen to his bs anymore and he walked out the room. My dad asked “what did I tell you about making friends with queers” and I snapped. I stood up next and told him, and my mother, that I was gay and have been dating Jake for a number of years behind their back. At first they couldnt speak, but after a short moment they quickly called me every slur they could, and call me horrible names. But I had already heard it all before and it didn’t affect me.
I walked out the door and Jake kissed me, he had heard me stand up for him and he was so proud, he knew what my life was like at home and what my parents were like, since I had told him all about it, and he told me he loved me as my parents stomped out behind me.
My mother scolded me and that was the first time she ever laid hands on me and hit me across the head. I had tears in my eyes and I didn’t know what to say, until Jake hit her back, hard.
Me and Jake left the house immediately and we had to sneak back in at midnight to pack all my things so I could move to his place and get away from my parents before they had to chance to dump all my stuff.
I went 0 contact with my parents that night and I hadnt talked to them since.
Fast-forward to a year and a half later, on my 19th birthday. Jake surprised me with tickets to a flight to canada, my dream country to live or atleast visit on holiday. I loved the cold and he loved the animals there so it was a win-win.
As I was packing my holiday luggage I received a text from an unknown number. “Caden, this is your father.” My heart sunk and I rushed to tell my boyfriend and I cried in his arms because I had no idea what to say. He told me to block him and forget about him but I couldnt bring myself to do it. I asked my father what he wanted and he replied almost immediately. “You are no longer my son. I wanted a real man, but instead got a pussy like you. Go ahead and block me after you receive this text, go ahead and be the pussy you are. I don’t care.”
As I read the message I stopped crying. I genuinely lost all sympathy and worry I had about my parents and I replied to the message “fuck you dad” which was the first time I ever swore to my parents, and the last time I talked to him.

Fast-forward again to now, I’m 22 and living with my husband, Jake. We live in a beautiful house in Canada and we love eachother so much. I couldnt give less of a shit about what my parents had to say about it and I’m so happy with my life and my decision to leave with Jake instead of live in fear under my parents command.

This is your sign to not gaf about your parents thoughts and love whoever the fuck you want, because in the end it’s 100% worth it.
