Networking “Parties”?

Fairly new to LA I work with a headhunting firm. I’ve been invited to a few “entertainment networking” parties. One of the people told me they can run until 4:00 AM this was middle of the week. Not really my style. Anyone got any experience are Los Angeles networking parties really networking or just getting wasted on a weekday?
