Winter Preparation for Year 0

Question

Hey, I recently got this game and I'm starting to head into fall. I'm playing a default world and class. I haven't had much success with finding any other ores besides Copper yet and I haven't been able to find lime or salt. I feel like I have a sizeable amount of vegetables, grain, and a few meals stored in crocks that are sealed. My cellar is working great so everything I have is lasting for a long time. And I have enough for quite a bit of pies.

I'm mostly concerned with how scarce food becomes during winter. I'm assuming berries don't grow and you won't find random crops growing. Do I have to worry about having a rough winter with starving out slowly? Either way I think I'll have a blast. I'm excited for the challenge winter will bring. I plan to use most of my Fall to stock up on firewood and get a proper house built. If anyone has any tips or tricks for a new player I'd really appreciate it, especially with finding different ores as I feel like that's one of the few things right now I am a bit clueless about even with a prospecting pick.

This is already such a good game, I really appreciate the slower playstyle, it makes everything feel really earned when you do get it.
