Happy Mother’s Day, Stepmom.

Happy mother’s day to my stepmom, who asked my dad to kick me out during the height of COVID, before I’d graduated high school, right after my 18th birthday. You didn’t even have the cojones to talk to me yourself, perched in your ivory tower. I hope me being forced out of my home made your marriage to my father so much easier.

I hope it was worth it, knowing that I had to move into a little room with my new, older boyfriend, and had to share a filthy bathroom with 6 other people.

I hope you sleep soundly at night, knowing that you helped my father gain a reason to give up on me. I’m glad that it’s totally cool that I had to work degrading jobs to make rent on my little room, and gave up on attending college, and lived in an unsafe neighborhood that shocked my coworkers when I named the address.

As long as you got your husband’s pesky kid out of the house, and got to focus on your REAL children. Your children who, by the way, loved me. My beloved siblings who I would comfort when your temper got out of control. My siblings who would tell me secrets that they knew they couldn’t trust you with.
