Shiplap & barn doors - out of fashion?

Hi y’all. I’ve been thinking for a long time that my entry hall needs something on the walls to add texture/interest and white shiplap would look awesome. Also have horrible bifold doors on the front hall closet that I’d like to replace with a sliding barn door. But the last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of money and then have it look really dated before the paint is even dry. What do you think?
