Evaluation of Luna builds: beam vs. glaive

My friend has recently started using a Glaive/Aura-focused luna build, which has, unsurprisingly, earned him some flack during games that don't go as well. The build he follows is something along the lines of this:

  • Lvl 1 - Lucent Beam

  • 2 and 3 - Lunar Blessing

  • 4 - Glaive

  • 5 - Blessing

  • 6 -Glaive

  • 7 - Blessing

  • 8 and 9 - Glaive

  • 10 and up - Stats

Once he gets to around level 20 or so he'll finish getting lucent beam upgraded and then finally his ult. Obviously this is an unconventional build, but it has worked to a reasonable degree, especially on a team with other auras (Venge, BM, etc.). I think the idea is to get that +38 damage quickly, along with max bounces, to hit harder in teamfights and push lanes quickly.

I'm curious if you guys think this is at all a viable build, especially in conjunction with a strong pushing team (since early glaives will obviously push lanes pretty quickly). For reference, we're generally on the edge of Normal and High brackets, switching back and forth depending on the game.

edit: the actual skill build isn't necessarily beam first, so please don't fixate on that. He's only done this 5 or so time and each time has been a little different, I just pulled the last one. I'm more interested in your opinions over whether this has any viability than blessing or beam first.

edit #2: just to be clear, I'm not trying to convince you why this build is good, I just wanted to get other opinions on it. No need to get indignant that I would dare try to pull this off because A) I didn't and B) I'm not saying it is a good idea or a bad idea, just posing a question.
