Backcountry hazards specific to Australia
Hey folks. Hoping to have some responses from the more experienced people that are hopefully lurking.
What are the BC hazards that are specific to Australia?
For some context to my question I hit Japan for the first time in February. Online consensus seems to be "BC Japan is mellow!". I attended a back country evening before venturing out of bounds and was rightfully scared straight. The lack of search and rescue, glide cracks, low tide hazards, going the wrong way and getting stuck in deep powder and water scared the hell out of me.
My BC experience in Aus is limited to minimal side country. I am loosely aware of navigation issues, weather and a handful of avalanche fatalities. What else should I have on my radar? Are there any BC nights / courses here I should attend (NSW based)?
