Diagnosed with Hashimotos this afternoon
I cannot begin to describe the validation I feel that someone has finally looked at my bloods properly and diagnosed me with this.
Since 2016 I have had ‘thyroid issues ?hyperthyroidism’. On bloods I have had low tsh, high thyroid hormones. But then it fluctuates back to normal ranges within weeks so no one does anything about it.
I discover today that not only do I have high anti thyroid antibodies (tpo) of 206, but that I have been showing high tpo SINCE 2016 when I had a result of 481! My gp (new guy) was like ‘this is so odd that no one has told you that you have hashimotos’.
Since 2016 I have been diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)which is an aarrhythmia that is triggered by excessive palpitations (I have constant heart palpitations like every 10-20 beats) and had multiple trips to the hospital when I couldn’t revert my rhythm at home with longer SVT episodes. GP reckons this is likely when I get a ‘flare’ and thyroid messes with my heart rhythm I am more prone to SVT episodes. Like I can’t believe I have seen multiple gps, a cardiologist and ED doctors and no one has picked up on this?? Like I have always mentioned “one time they measured my thyroid levels were overactive but that’s it”. And the fact that the result was there in my file of anti thyroid antibodies and no one told me???
Anyway. My gp referred me to an endocrinologist My questions are
1). Is hashimotos why I feel so so awful? Brain fog, sluggishness, anxiety, depression, OCD, so sleepy all the time, whacky thermostat, weight fluctuations. I’ve felt like this in some capacity since 2016 when I went to get those first bloods!
2). Can hashimotos sometimes make you hyperthyroid or hypothyroid or sometimes be normal? Is that why I have had such a variety of symptoms?
Any help or advice is appreciated
