Rotation Program Preferences

I am very fortunate to have received a full-time offer post graduation and am now sifting through the forty or so options I have available from which to choose. I am allowed to rank my top five choices. There are roles/assignments involving a broad range of topics, including AI/ML, which is what I have come here to ask about.

I am curious if it is worth using one or two of my top five preferences on AI/ML assignments in order to gain experience in the field? I ask because these will definitely be pref’ed the most by others, and there is other assignments that interest me. I am very interested in AI/ML, but I also want to have other marketable skills rather since I’d assume the industry will be cluttered with people that have way more experience in AI/ML than me after a single one year rotation (we have three total spanning three years), leaving me with no marketable skills for other positions.

Basically, I am wondering if choosing an AI/ML assignment/role with set me back with regard to developing other important skill sets for the future. I would like to break in to AI/ML eventually because it’s very interesting and lucrative, but I know it will be extremely competitive.
