Welcome new pioneers! Just a quick PSA and FAQ [MOD POST]

Hi guys!

So, as you might have seen, after this post we've had some people come on over after seeing links to r/foolsgold. This is great news! More people is good and a bit of friendly competition will encourage us to improve and work harder.

If you're a new person here - welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay and the server. I'm just going to give you a quick public service announcement to clear some stuff up!

1) Read the sidebar

The sidebar has lots of useful information that will help you. Most the stuff I say now is also in the sidebar, so if you want to look there and ignore the following wall of text, go for it! Still confused? Keep reading.

2) Who's who?

3) General ideology and stuff

(From the sidebar): Fool's Gold is a Minecraft Server based on the Gold Rush; find your fortune, make a settlement, trade with the residents of the towns or lose it all trying in this mean, gritty world. This is a general description of Fool's Gold. You are dropped into the world of Aurum, where you go out into the world.

There are a few settlements, four main "zones" run by four admins, and a spawn town. These zones have factions. There is also a bandit faction for you evil bastards who want to fuck-a the shit-a up. Further away from the villages, more gold will be found, but it is also more dangerous and less protected.

4) Features

What can you do here?

  • Custom built map, which is MASSIVE. We mean massive. If you don't believe us, go to the server and look around

  • Custom server texture pack, to make it look really Gold Rush-y (which will automagically download when you log on)

  • Custom plugins to make the server work like the wild west

  • Build your own mining area, houses, ranch etc... and mine (the norm)

  • PvP people and Greif in non protected areas

  • Protected towns and villages

  • Trade gold with NPC characters to get better items and stuff to help you survive

  • Join a faction to get their benefits

  • Pan for gold in rivers as well as mining

  • Horses! (Coming soon)

  • Shoot at people with guns, you murderous psycho you

  • An established trade system

  • One-time-only loot chests and treasures!

  • Blow shit up with the TNT you buy

  • Live out like the old West. It's a tough life.

How does all of that sound to you?

5) Is this a Role Playing server?

To get into the spirit of things, RPing is encouraged but not enforced. We don't want to put people off who just want to chill and mine, but we also like people who are truly committed to the role. Have a look around for some western skins, and check out the Old West Name Generator and some Old West Movies to get in the spirit!

6) How do I play?

Currently, the server is in Builder-Only mode whilst we finish off populating the townships and villages. You are free to sign on at 198.27.64.58:25555 (Server IP) but you will not have any permissions. Feel free to look around.

You can sign up for the closed Beta, which will be open after the builders have finished (very soon). Sign up for it here

7) How do I become a builder?

Contact one of the server moderators, with an imgur album / picture of one of your Western Style builds. You can also submit an imgur album to the subreddit and see how people react, which you then may be contacted and asked to build!

8) How soon is it fully public?

The answer is, basically, soon. We don't have a specific date, because we want the map to look the very best before we release it. The map is very nearly finished, it's being tweaked now

9) Will you marry me?

I'm sorry, but I'm already married to my work. And a hooker in Vegas.

10) I've got more questions! HELP ME!
