AITA - Am I The Asshole?

Asshole

I (M) recently had to move. I found a place, completed the condition report and disagreed with the state of the property, I discovered it wasn’t in acceptable condition. I couldn’t even work from home as needed, and felt unsafe living there after a few days.

I requested to be able to move out with no penalty, or guidance from them on assigning a new renter myself. This was weeks of emails back and forth where they tried to convince me I’d need to pay break lease fees (which I couldn’t afford) even if I assigned a new renter myself. They also bombarded me with paperwork which I ignored.

I complained to my estate agent's (F) manager (F) who was spouting the same nonsense trying to make me believe I was doing something illegal. She would say "I know what you're trying to do and it's not going to work'' leading to utter confusion on my part. I eventually won the fight and now I’m in a new place under a good agency.

While going through the fight with the agency, in a group chat with two friends (M), I said something misogynistic in regards to the agent I was dealing with.

“Seriously I feel like saying something like:

"I know you want to girl boss hard, prove to the boss man that you're worth something, but surely you're getting close to 30, aren't you? Those eggs won't last forever, it might be time to hang up the suit, find a nice man, and get back in the kitchen"”

I was more angry than I can remember being. If I was calmer, I would have said something like “choosing to work for that corrupt agency speaks to your incompetence”. She never saw this. This was just me venting. One of the friends in the group chat showed it to his girlfriend, though. She has since refused to talk to me. I expected I would hear from her at some point voicing her complaints. A few weeks later I was rather annoyed about something else and self righteously said to him “Is she still pissed at me for hypothetically abusing someone who was actively trying to gaslight and scam me?”

He said he thought what I said was low brow and that I was better than that. He and his girlfriend have since chosen to cut ties. We have been friends for a year, this is the first example of such behaviour. They are welcome to cut ties for any reason, I’m upset, but can’t begrudge them for it. I would have preferred it if my friends were ones I could grow alongside, not some who would cast me aside as soon as I expressed something outside the accepted groupthink.

The other friend in the group chat actually found what I said to be funny, He and I have been friends for significantly longer.

I know I have things to work on. I'm working with my therapist to try to bring myself in-line with the way I word things. I'm not diagnosed but I've had three psychologists suspect me of having Social-Pragmatic Communication Disorder. It doesn't excuse bad behaviour but improving my communication skills in light of this is one of the main focuses of my therapy.

Am I the asshole?
