I’m still in disbelief
I’ve watched the E-Day trailer, read the comments on YouTube and Twitter and read the articles with all the details they’ve given about the campaign over and over again, and it literally doesn’t feel real to me. It feels like I had a vivid dream and when I woke up it actually happened in real life. I can’t even believe what I’m seeing and I can’t describe the feeling.
The trailer couldn’t have been done any more perfectly. This is everything I’ve been missing from Gears of War. The emotions we felt from the Mad World trailer inspired them to create a whole game based on that theme as a love letter to the fans.
How insane is it that not only are we going back in time to a setting we’ve always wanted to see fully fleshed out in a mainline game and play as our favorite characters, but they’re also going back to the dark, gritty art style that we loved which they use to call destroyed beauty. They’re also leaning heavily into the brutal horror aspects of the original Gears of War that we all loved. We saw the bones of the Locust Drone after Marcus hit him with a headshot, indicating that we’re getting the detailed gore we remember from Gears of War 2.
They said it’s going to be a linear campaign with more attention to detail in the level design. Destructible environments from the old games might make a return as well. One of the biggest complaints of Gears 5 is that it lacked weight and intensity in the combat, and assuming they’ve listened to the community on that as well I think it’s safe to assume that the movement and gunplay mechanics will feel more like classic Gears.
After things went downhill I thought our beloved franchise would never be the same. I never imagined the day would come where I’m as excited for a Gears game as I’ve been since the original trilogy. E-Day has some serious potential to be one of the best in the series.
It is absolutely unreal to see the widespread hype for this and it gets me excited to see the OG esports pros and content creators giving praise and hoping this will be the comeback we’ve all been praying for.
Thank you to the new team at the Coalition for enduring the hardships of the past few years and still having the passion to give us your best shot at redemption and restoring our faith in the future of Gears of War!
