My bf (29m) of 3 years is thinking about breaking up with me(24f) because I smoke cigarettes.

Hey!

So almost a week ago my bf gave me and ultimatum if either I stop smoking cigarettes or he will break up with me. Now I know that the smell of cigarettes is nasty but for me this is the thing that helps me deal with stress I get from work.

So for 1 thing why I dont understand his sudden wish is that I was smoking before we met and I never hid it from him. And 2nd because ive told him So so so many times that I have such an abnormal amount of stress from work (was actually put on some meds for that) and ive told him that I'll stop smoking when I get rid of that stress.

For context I smoke alot when im at work(1 cigarettes every 2 hours more less), after work and/or weekend 0-2 for a whole day. I know im addicted too etc but I have days when I dont need to smoke because im just not feeling any stress. So stress is just main factor of my smoking.

This is where I was wrong:

As we were fighting, he told me again for the 3rd time if I dont stop smoking he will leave me. So I gave him an ultimatum back that if he wants me to stop smoking he will have to pay for my living bc the only way ill do this is if I stop working my current job and take time away.

At this point it just got weird because he got mad at me for telling him that he has to pay for all my expenses because i just dont want to work etc etc.

• him telling me im too lazy to work hit some bad spot in me. Because ive been earrings my own money since I was 12 years old more less and rn im on a good position money wize and for my age
• i think the stress is killing me more than the cigarettes
• just for explaining, he does earn about 5-6 times more than me so he didnt get mad at this bc its financially not possible

At this point i just dont know what is normal and what is not? Maybe im in the wrong or maybe the break up plan is not too bad because all this ultimatum thing is just sad

Tl;dr my bf gave me an ultimatum, id either I stop smoking or he will break up with me so I gave him an ultimatum back.
