Lacrosse stick canes

So today a couple of girls came through with lacrosse sticks but with a cane handle on them and the x-ray operator cleared them.

What do you think should they have been pulled? Both girls were high school age and obviously didn’t need the canes for any kind of support at all. Is this just a loop hole?
