How much of a water bill spike can a leak cause?
I rent a condo unit in Clearwater, Fl (~800 sqft).
I live alone and it looks like my landlord uses a submeter to charge my water bill.
The water bill has been consistently around $58~$64ish, but this month it came out to be
$77.
I had a leakage issue in the shower (water dripping from the spout from time to time)
during this billing cycle for about 4~7 days.
Can little drops like this cause this much of an increase in the bill?
I do not believe the dripping happened non-stop but I could definitely hear it dripping
from time to time until I got this fixed.
My landlord was prompt in fixing the issue when I finally called: he just had to tighten
the faucet valve.
I am just curious to know if a little leak like this can cause this much of a spike in the bill
because, even with both of my parents visiting for a week, the bill was never more than
$69.
Also, can a landlord be responsible for this leakage related bill spike?
Lastly, my landlord always receives the water bill first from the submeter company, then
texts me the picture of the entire bill (that includes acct number, names, address, usages,
etc) to me each month so I can send him the bill. Any possibility that my landlord can
manipulate this bill?
My landlord insisted that he send the bill to me because he had had a tenant who never
paid the water bill and left.
