Buy an iPad or an iPhone for College?

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I currently own an iphone 7 plus 32gb and it does give me some issues, especially related to storage and battery life, and so my family is keen on me getting an iphone for fall as I start college. However, I genuinely like to believe that having an ipad (especially with the ecosystem) would be much more beneficial since I'd be able to use it for studying (+ the music production and video editing that I wanna do).

my whole reasoning is that since I'd carry an ipad everywhere, i wouldn't need to use my phone as much because the two devices are so interlinked and can be used together. on the road and all, the phone would be a plus indeed. any thoughts?
I'm in a bit of one or the other situation.

For context, i'd either be getting the iPhone 13 base model ($600) from the apple website, or the iPad Air M2 with the apple pencil pro using the education savings (~$668)
