my ob-gyn dr made a weird af comment

at least, i feel like it was bizarre. what do y’all think?

i made an appointment to see my gynecologist last week and requested to have an STD test done cause of 🙊. the nurse says she would write it in my chart and when the doctor comes in they will take a look, after were done with my initial exam he asks about the test i requested. i told him that i haven't had any symptoms or anything, but i wanted to get checked out just to make sure im good. i also requested a blood test (to test for hepatitis, etc) since I haven't had one in a while. he tells me "well, i mean... you look like a nice girl. i don't really think it's necessary to have the tests done."

i was taken aback by this comment. anyone can get an STD, whether they look like a "nice girl" or not. like i couldn't believe a doctor would say something like that to a patient. thankfully, i persisted and he gave me the test, but i feel like people who avoid confrontation might have just let it slide without getting the test done. which could be harmful.

am i overthinking this?
