Book Ashford, do you think he is...
... the only irredeemable villain of the series?
On my second time through the books, I'm reading Abaddon's Gate and I keep on thinking how Ashford doesn't seem to have any positive qualities, nothing to elicit sympathy.
Something I really like about the bad guys of the Expanse is that they are usually complex, developed characters. We see their flaws and strength. We can somehow understand why they behave the way they do. They have positive attributes. Even just being competent.
Not Ashford though. He's incompetent, self centred, arrogant, short sighted, spiteful and there's no reason to sympathise with him. No great trauma or strong ideological motivation.
He gets the job through no merit of his, he's out of his depth pretty much immediately and it gets worse from there (not to mention that he kills one of the nicest characters in the book)
What do you think?
