ANKI STUDENTS

I just wanted to give a heads up to you students who haven't yet entered PA programs but are hoping to in the future. I am about to complete my didactic year and move into clinicals. One thing our advisors have pointed out is the "ANKI STUDENTS" who use the program to study and almost exclusively use it. While its a good adjunct to studying dont let it be the only form of studying you do and rely on. Alot of the students in my class who depend on it can rattle off the flash card information quickly and they pass a written test. However, during the OSCE's they tend to do poorly because the patient cases they provide dont always follow the regular symptoms or have key findings that would direct you, which throws these students off and they dont have the ability to critically think through the information to evaluate their patient because all they know is the flashcard response. While didactic year is primarily about passing tests to move forward the practical application for OSCEs or even further during clinicals will require you to have a better understanding that always critical thinking. Goodluck to all you!
