Interference with speakers after Mac OS update

I have a macbook pro 2016 and have been using a Steinberg UR22mkII soundcard with KRK Rokit 5's for the past years and never had any issue, however I recently updated my macbook from Mojave to Big Sur and now I'm getting this lagging interference issue whenever I try to play audio from my laptop. I did install a new yamaha driver for it but it didn't make a difference.

There's also no difference whether the charger is plugged in or not. It's not really a hissing/static inference but it's like a lag in the audio that happens every few seconds almost like a scratched CD.

There's no problem when I monitor a keyboard through the soundcard though so I assume it must be an issue with the mac update? Does anyone have any suggestions?
