Bale arm closing automatically

I have a new shimano Stradic 8000 i was trying to sell and the buyer was concerned ened the bale doesn't close automatically when you spin the reel. Regardless of the damage that does to the components, are they designed to close automatically ? I noticed it spins really slow and hard when the bale remains open but won't close the bale.
