529 questions for non-custodial parent.

A non-custodial parent wants to open a 529 for their child. However, the parent may want to go back to college themselves… but will make necessary sacrifices if it means the child can go to college instead. Parent also does not want to cause a ~50% gouge on child’s possible financial aid come college time.

What is best for the child: custodial 529 or an individual 529?

Is there any way for the non-custodial parent to not have financial aid-specific issues with their child’s 529 if they choose to attend college again, or is that unavoidable?

Again, parent is willing to bypass college for themselves if it benefits the child.
