Was Journey to the West 1986 shot on film?

I am trying to find out how did they shot the 1986 adaptation, because the quality of the image on the offical playlist on CCTV's Youtube Channel is pretty low, but if they shot on film it should be higher. It almost seems like a VHS image, but I don't think they would have done it in 1986.

Any additional production information would be great to know, which cameras they used, etc. I heard that there is a documentary about the production, but I couldn't find it with english subs.

Also, I would highly appreciate if anyone has a link where I can watch the whole show without cuts (the CCTV's version is reduced) with English subs.

Thanks guys
