How to balance your desires while minimizing suffering?
The crux of the Buddhist doctrine as far as I have understood states that desire is the root of all the suffering so if you want to eliminate suffering you have to eliminate desire. But the thing which most Buddhists to do this I believe is leaving their households and becoming monks. I can do everything but this. I want my parents to be happy and for that I will need to secure a job(I am college undergraduate right now). I want my parents to be happy because they did so much for me like raising me so well, ensuring that I was happy by providing all they could. But I realize that if I keep running behind this treadmill for success it becomes more stressful and suffering increases. Like I don't even want relationships now because of how much of a load they give. So how do I balance this out? Like I know I need to become quite rich to provide well for my parents and all those I care about but this path seems to be full of suffering. I can't just leave everything and become a monk which I would have probably if I had the same knowledge of Buddhism and I had no family. How do I continue to work towards financial success while minimizing suffering? If that is possible. Do recommend suttas, talks or whatever resources possible. I will be highly grateful.
