Hey guys. I’m 36 years old and I’ve just now decided to take guitar seriously. I took some lessons in 3rd grade. I played for about a year when I was 15, but I wasn’t good. Really just copied what I could off YouTube. Fast forward 20 years and I’ve grown in many ways, and now I feel like I can really approach this with the attitude and persistence required.

I picked guitar back up on June 3. So I’ve been back playing just over a month. Only in the last week do I feel like my hands are starting to work together, but I have a LONG way to go to feel like the guitar is part of me.

I’m frustrated at this point because I practice a lot but I still mess up simple things. Stuff that you’d think no one would mess up after 100 attempts. But I find a way.

At this point I’m just looking for guidance. What should someone in my shoes focus on? I’m taking music theory lessons once a week, so I have that part covered. YouTube is a great resource but I have so many videos bookmarked to learn from that I don’t even know where to start.

I attached a video of me playing the intro to nothing else matters. It took me probably an hour to get just this little bit on video. To get decent play through without many mistakes takes me that long. Very discouraging. Anyway, the video is a true representation of my awful skill level but I hope it will be a help be a guide to whoever will respond.

Sincerely, thank you.

Looking for some guidance/critique: returning beginner.
