Have I bought a stupid pump?

So I just pumped for the first time ever and it did not go well. I didn't even reach 20mm Hg, that is 20!

It simply did not feel comfortable. Is this normal or is my pump stupid?

Asking because the seal is basically a C ring and it might be the reason. I did feel uncomfortable in the head as well but I wonder if the seal is that bad?
